Working with the hospitality industry

Donna was very nervous and timid when she came to BTCV. She felt that life had let her down and she had faced many hurdles. Donna was doing voluntary work but she wasn’t sure how well she’d fit into a working environment. The only previous job she'd enjoyed was a work experience placement from school. She loved it so much that in the next school holiday, she volunteered for two weeks to help out.

Donnas’ ideal job was to be a receptionist. This was her dream from school days.

Meanwhile, BTCV in North East England were contracted to present a course to prepare New Deal customers for work in the hospitality industry, specifically Premier Inns who were opening new premises in County Durham.

BTCV was commissioned to deliver a programme of training modules in health and hygiene, first aid, motivation, self-awareness, self-confidence, team building, problem solving, communication, customer service, interview techniques and presentation skills. This would prepare customers for a guaranteed interview with Premier Inns for their 36 job vacancies.

Of course, Donna successfully completed the programme and nervously went to her interview. A few days later she was rewarded with a call from Premier Inns to say that out of many applicants, she was the most suitable for the position of hotel receptionist.

Donna was ecstatic with this result and called BTCV to say "thank you" for all the help she'd received during her two week BTCV course.
